Fresno, CA. February 11, 2021: Valley Health Team (VHT) and Westside Produce, in collaboration with Del Bosque Farms, R&N Packing, Tomatek, Cultiva La Salud and Fresno County will provide over 800 COVID-19 vaccines to agriculture workers, in Firebaugh, CA. 400 vaccines were administered on February 9, 2021 and another 400 vaccines will be administered at another event on February 11, 2021.

The city of Firebaugh, located just over 40 miles west of Fresno is a major producer of crops such as tomato, garlic, cantaloupes, and cotton. This highly active agriculture economy brings with it a high concentration of agriculture workers.

“These farmworkers are some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” said Soyla A. Reyna-Griffin, Chief Executive Officer of Valley Health Team. “Many of these farmworkers are unable to travel to Fresno for treatment, and being able to serve them in their community ensures that they have convenient access to care and are able to receive the vaccine without any barriers to treatment.”

“It is a travesty that there are so many frontline farmworkers out there that do not have access to the vaccine,” said Garrett Patricio, President of Westside Produce. “Valley Health Team has played an integral part in getting vaccines into the hands of farmworkers who would have otherwise not had had access. It is a blessing to know that all of our workers have the opportunity to get vaccinated so that they have that peace of mind moving forward.”

Fresno County has more than doubled its allotment of the coronavirus vaccine this week, receiving 19,000 doses instead of the expected 8,000 doses.

Since 1973, it has been Valley Health Team’s mission to provide accessible, comprehensive, and quality health care in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner regardless of patient’s ability to pay. Our main purpose as a Federally Qualified Health Center is to enhance the provision of primary care services in underserved urban and rural communities.

Valley Health Team is a Joint Commission-accredited, private, non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center serving patients throughout the Central Valley and Eastern Sierras with an operating budget in excess of $42,000,000. Valley Health Team provided health care services to over 34,156 patients in 2020 with approximately 83% of those patients at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
